Special Treats

Welcome back Friendly Friday! Celebrating with a treat?

It’s something a little bit exceptional, a little extraordinary.

It’s the first day of spring. It’s a perfectly heated bath. It’s a mimosa tree in full bloom. It’s a deserted beach just for you. It’s a gift offered for no reason.

It can also be made of sugar!

    1. I called them “posers” because that’s the kind of posh (too expensive) desserts created to be cute and attract tourists in the shop. But I was curious and bought one anyway!!! Guilty!
      Yes they are fancy meringues.

  1. Oh my my mmhy! Instant envy. One of the things I really loved about my trips to France were the pastries. If you ever live in Canada or US, you’d miss the instant access to delights like these. Your gelato photo makes me think of the first time I tasted one. It was in Nice and I wasn’t prepared for the creaminess and intense flavor. Pistachio and Hazelnut. Mmmmmm.

    1. That’s the benefit you get from multiple lives. After enjoying a lifetime of French pastries, I can try lobster rolls, cider doughnuts, Harvard Beets or rhubarb pies!

      But Italian gelati!!! It rocks.

  2. Mmmm. I worked for two years in a chocolate and pastry shop in Naperville in the Chicago area. We sold macarons, one of our best sellers, although they’re not my favorite. Most of the pastries, though, were the American sort, much too sweet for me. I can’t wait to get back to France and indulge again. 🙂

      1. I was many years ago. I taught high school physical education, health, and one semester of sociology. Then I homeschooled our girls through high school. I also was a personal trainer for 16 years which was also teaching. 🙂

  3. I take it you love raspberry? En fait, ma pâtisserie préférée, c’est la tarte aux framboises! I’ve actually never had the massive raspberry-filled macarons when I lived abroad in France, although I will say that I’d been tempted to get them numerous times. Bonne dégustation, and here’s to a “sweet” life! 🙂

    1. Yes I will take fruit over chocolate anytime! Anything sour, sharp, fresh… Raspberry, lime, passion fruit…. These are definitely my favourites!
I’ll think about you next time I order a macaron 😉
